View from Skyline DriveSKYLINE DRIVE IN SHENANDOAH NATIONAL PARK (SD)

Description: Bicycling Magazine ranked Skyline Drive as the best bike ride in Virginia! Built in the 1930s as a way to stimulate the economy the road travels the crests of the Blue Ridge Mountains and provides panoramic views of the Shenandoah Valley, Massanutten Mountain and George Washington National Forest. In addition, the Appalachian Trail crosses Skyline Drive 28 times! It has been designated as a National Scenic Byway, a National Landmark, a National Parkway and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Not for the faint of heart, this road is never flat or straight. You are rewarded with spectacular views in every direction and can take frequent breaks at the scenic overlooks. The climbs typically do not exceed 6%; however, they are long.

You can also combine your cycling with other sports such as hiking, whitewater rafting, kayaking, fishing and observing birds and wildlife.

You’ll reserve your accommodations based on our recommendations of the motels, inns, and bed and breakfasts that are located in the towns along your route. We can also identify camp sites if you prefer the moon and the stars above.
