Description:
History abounds all along the Virginia Capital Trail! You will cycle along the Scenic Route 5 corridor, one of the first inland routes in North America. You will have many opportunities to explore national treasures including battlefields, plantations, birding and wildlife refuges, museums, and much more. The Virginia Capital Trail connects Virginia’s past and present capitals of Jamestown, Williamsburg and Richmond, encompassing 400 years of history.
Completed in October 2015, the Virginia Capital Trail offers 52 miles on a protected multi-use path between Richmond and Jamestown. Wonderfully diverse, the Virginia Capital Trail winds its way along the James River, offering you scenic views of the river, its tributaries, and tidal marshes. You’ll cycle through dense forests and along open fields of corn, soybeans, sorghum, and wheat. It is easy to imagine life on the historic plantations once owned by Virginia’s elite planters from the 1600s to 1800s.
Your tour can be expanded to include the cities surrounding the Virginia Capital Trail. Road-Tested Bike Tours plans personalized tours of the Richmond region and the Colonial Parkway, a 23-mile National Parkway that connects Virginia’s Historic Triangle of Williamsburg, Jamestown, and Yorktown.
